Jack Dorsey is the creator, chairman and co-founder of Twitter. Here’s what he had to say about Twitter and social media at the Future of Media panel at NYU sponsored by Internet Week 2009.
Do you consider Twitter to be a success today?
Jack Dorsey – Twitter will be a success when it fades into the background as just another communication device, like a telephone or e-mail. When it becomes a common and accepted form of communication.
What kind of changes can we expect from Twitter?
Jack Dorsey – The difference between Twitter today and tomorrow is in the hands of the user. Much of what is on Twitter today was developed by our users. We’re very good at listening to how people want to use it.
Will Twitter eventually overtake Google?
Jack Dorsey – There is more than enough room for these two technologies to work together to produce new content and find new users.
What do you think Twitter is missing right now?
Jack Dorsey – Our technology makes it very easy to share real time events. Editorial content is what’s really missing from Twitter right now. Bringing journalistic integrity to Twitter is very important to us.
